British Transport Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to about a vicious assault at Kirkcaldy railway station.
They believe the man photographed may have information about the attack on Saturday September 12 which left the victim in hospital with serious injuries.
He is described as being of medium build with light brown hair and was wearing a light blue jacket, an orange top and jeans.
The assault took place shortly after midnight as the 25-year-old victim left the 23.08 Edinburgh Waverley to Dundee service.
It is thought the man responsible boarded at Haymarket and may also have attacked his victim at Aberdour or Burntisland station.
Officers had been looking at CCTV footage from the train and the stations in an effort to identify him.
Both the train and Kirkcaldy station were busy at the time and witnesses were urged to come forward.
After releasing today’s images, Detective Constable Paul Farquhar, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, said: “I am appealing to anyone who recognises the man shown in the photographs to contact me as a matter of urgency.”
