A Burntisland man broke into a hotel then stole a car to carry off his haul, a court has heard.
Craig Pritchard was jailed for 30 months after Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard the plan went wrong when the car was crashed.
Pritchard, 36, of Somerville Street, admitted that on March 7 last year he broke into the Burntisland Sands Hotel, Lochies, stole money boxes, a sum of money, alcohol, keys and jewellery.
He also admitted stealing a car from the hotel.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said at around 5am that day a car was involved in a collision and the occupants were seen leaving the vehicle carrying bottles of whisky and carrier bags full of other items.
Police were called and officers saw the accused walking back towards the car “under the influence”, Ms Yousaf added.
He was found to be in possession of jewellery and keys. At around the same time, the hotel owners discovered the break-in and reported it along with the theft of the car.
The depute fiscal said the damage to the vehicle was estimated at £11,700 and that to the hotel at £3,000.
Pritchard appeared from custody and the court heard he had just been sentenced to a 25-month jail term over another matter.
Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a consecutive jail term of 30 months.
