Councillors in Dalgety Bay have expressed disappointment with the progress over a final remediation plan for the irradiated beach in the town.
Labour councillors Gavin Yates and Lesley Laird attended the Dalgety Bay Forum. They were told that although steps are being taken to come forwardwith a final plan and an important meeting with technical experts will be held this week, a final plan was more than six months away, and could be a year.
It was impossible to get a more accurate estimate as an MoD representative failed to attend.
Mr Yates said: “It is important to get things right but these delays are so disappointing to people who, like me, live in the Bay.
“There were some positives, in that Sepa have put in place a communications plan and they are very positive that we are heading in the right direction.”
The MoD was named as polluter of Dalgety Bay after dumping ash from 800 contaminated planes in the foreshore.
Councillor Laird said: “The MoD need to stand up to their obligation and bring forward a timetable with key milestones so they can be held to account.
“It is vital that there are regular reviews to ensure that works are carried out to the satisfaction of local people.”
