A man has been charged after allegedly impersonating a police officer in Dunfermline.
He is accused of pretending to be an officer twice in the Abbeyview/Touch areas over the past week to gain entry into people’s homes.
PC Fraser Laird, Community Safety Officer of Police Scotland’s Fife Division, said: “Bogus callers operate all year round and will target the elderly and vulnerable, and you should never allow anyone to enter your house unless you are aware that they are coming.
“Beware of people cold calling at your door to offers services. If you need work carried out contact a local tradesman via a trade directory or use Fife Council’s Trusted Trader Scheme.
“Remember, bogus callers come in many guises and can be men or women, well-dressed as well as wearing working clothes.
“Bogus callers will be polite and friendly as they want to catch you off guard. You must be suspicious – even if it is not in your nature. Do not be afraid of offending them, your safety is far more important than their feelings.”
