A proposal to build 48 terraced houses on land adjacent to Pinkerton Farm, Balcomie Road, Crail, has been unanimously rejected.
The application by Alan Barrie, of Mosscroft Avenue, Westhill, had been recommended for approval by Fife Council planners.
It was deemed to be “compatible with its surrounds in terms of use and would retain the visual and residential amenity of the surrounding area”.
Given the site constraints, the layout was also considered acceptable in terms of design and density and was to the satisfaction of Fife Council’s transportation services.
However, while recognising that there is high demand for affordable housing in North East Fife, the North East Fife Planning Committee rejected the application, amid concerns that this was the wrong type of development in the wrong place.
There were specific concerns that the application did not have to consider its impact on local school capacity because of its ‘affordable’ nature, while there was also concern about the proposed density of the development and limited garden space.
