Burntisland Fabrication Limited (BiFab) is celebrating after being awarded the largest single share of contracts totalling £4m for new tidal turbines.

ScottishPower Renewables managing director Keith Anderson joined First Minister Alex Salmond in Oslo today as the Norwegian tidal-power developer Hammerfest Strom announced the contracts to construct the first of its advanced HS1000 tidal turbines in Scotland.

BiFab has been awarded the largest single contract for the fabrication of the sub-structure for the turbine, which will be installed at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney next year. For in-depth coverage, reaction and background, read tomorrow’s Courier.
