Fife Council has promised to replace the scruffy-looking Saltire flag at St Andrews Town Hall.
Former Fife councillor, and local resident, Bill Sangster raised the issue of the shabby Scotland flag.
He said: “For the past three months or so we, the citizens of St Andrews and thousands of visitors from all over the world, have had sight of the Saltire which stands high over the town hall and our town, a bedraggled mess and a disgrace.
“Why has there been no urgency in getting this very important flag replaced?”
Fife Council halls and community centres team leader Gary Daniell responded: “We are in the process of standardising the inspection process for the flags and flagpoles at our halls and community centres.
“If we see signs of wear and tear, a new flag is ordered and replaced as required.
“In this instance it’s taken us longer than normal to do this. We are currently arranging for the flag at St Andrews Town Hall to be replaced and it will be checked on a quarterly basis.”
