An inquiry has been ruled out into the death of a Glenrothes man who took his own life at work.
Jim Kirk, 53, was found hanging at BT’s Kirkcaldy office in December 2009. His family believe the senior project manager was pushed to suicide by the stress of his excessive workload.
Wife Mary, 55, wants the Crown Office to hold a fatal accident inquiry but it said that would not be in the public interest.
Father-of-three Mr Kirk was said to be regularly working seven days a week for up to 16 hours a day just before his death.
He was in charge of a project to provide an IT network for NHS Scotland hospitals and GP and dental surgeries and had just been told he was going to have to work over Christmas because of problems with the contract.
A Crown Office spokesman said: “Crown counsel gave full and careful consideration to all the facts and circumstances, including the views of the family, before concluding that it is not in the public interest to hold a fatal accident inquiry.”
A BT spokesman said: “We were very sad at the loss of James Kirk and did offer our support to the family at that difficult time. We cooperated fully with the procurator fiscal at the time.”
