Builders and tradesmen have rallied round in the next stage of their selfless efforts to help the devastated family of a young Rosyth mum killed by her ex-partner.
In March, Jennifer Rennie, 26, was murdered in her Findlay Street home by Scott Simpson, 41, who then took his own life.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, their children Violet, 5, and Logan, 1, were handed over to Jennifer’s dad Norman, who lives with his partner Mary in Dalgety Bay.
Space has been a problem at the grandparents’ two-bedroom home in Letham Gait, but now the community has rallied round to build them an extra bedroom and en-suite for free.
Mark Bennett of Bay Printing, and Debbie Watson, community champion and events co-ordinator at Dobbies, where Jennifer used to work, put their heads together in April after hearing about the lack of room in the house.
In the vein of the US show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which transforms homes for those who need a helping hand, they picked up the phone and recruited extra assistance.
They contacted numerous builders and tradesmen to see if they could help and work on Project Jen got under way a week past Friday.
Mark Bennett said site manager Mike Telfer of Telfer Joinery was overseeing the laying of floors and putting up of sides before the bricklayers moved in.
He said kind-hearted builders and tradesmen were doing the work for free and squeezing in their efforts between regular work. It was hoped the project will be finished next month.
