A public consultation to help shape traffic improvements in Stirling city centre is under way.
Recognising that traffic arrangements in some city centre streets were “not ideal” and can create barriers to cycling, walking and accessing public transport, the council has developed a draft scheme to address some of the issues already raised by the community.
This outlines changes that may be implemented, as funding has not yet been allocated. Possible improvements include:
* On-street parking maintained or enhanced for deliveries and customers;
* Barnton Street, Maxwell Place, Murray Place and Station Road becoming one-way streets;
* Maxwell Place reopening to traffic in one direction;
* Bus stops and taxi ranks enhanced and relocated to improve facilities and minimise congestion;
* Footway areas improved to encourage pedestrian movement and enhance access to commercial premises.
The project also complements changes proposed for Murray Place and King Street and supports the City Transport Plan.
