More than 120 workers at a major Sky customer contact centre in Fife have been told their jobs are at risk.
The move to place staff at the broadcast giant’s base at Carnegie Campus in Dunfermline on notice of redundancy follows a review of the night-time shift.
A 45-day consultation period is now under way in which staff will be informed individually of their situation and the options open to them.
Management are proposing to shut the call centre between midnight and 6am because of a lack of demand for services during the early hours period.
The company yesterday said the changes could lead to a small number of redundancies but said affected staff would be offered the opportunity to apply for other roles within the business.
The Courier understands enough work is available on the day shifts at Dunfermline and at a second contact centre 20 miles away at Livingston to allow full redeployment of all affected staff.
One worker spoke of their shock at the decision to end the night shift and said: “Most of the staff are married women with a family to run….the alternate shifts being offered do not fit in with that family lifestyle.”
