Bogus workmen target vulnerable in North-East Fife
ByClaire Warrender
Householders have been warned to be aware of bogus callers.
The caution from police follows an increase in incidents in North-East Fife.
Officers say some householders have fallen victim to distraction thefts and fraud as they are persuaded to have unnecessary and poorly-executed work done at inflated prices.
They are sometimes asked to pay for materials in advance, only for the workmen to disappear.
Community safety officer Paul Buttercase said: “The people carrying out this type of crime are often referred to as bogus workmen, however, they are callous criminals who deliberately target elderly and vulnerable people.
“Recently, we have become aware of people carrying out this type of crime, targeting bank cards and PINs.
“Genuine tradespeople who carry out work at your home will never require you to part with either your bank card or PIN.”
