A Fife hairdresser has thanked supporters of his NHS wig-fitting service after receiving confirmation that it has been saved.
Douglas Barr, salon director of Sheds Hairdressing in Dunfermline, has been officially told he can continue to help people with hair loss due to chemotherapy or alopecia.
It was feared Sheds would no longer be able to provide the service when an assessment of the premises found it was not disabled friendly because of the steps to the upstairs salon.
But after the installation of a stairclimber, Sheds is now one of three Fife agents providing tailored hairpieces on the NHS.
Mr Barr said the fact there were now three agents offering the service in Fife was good news for everyone involved.
“There were travel issues and wellbeing issues for the clients but there is now going to be another two salons in Fife doing this, so that solves the problems with geography.”
Mr Barr spread the good news on the salon’s Facebook page.
He said: “We are delighted to announce the resumption of our hairpiece fitting and personalisation service to NHS clients.
“I would have liked to thank everyone personally but, due to the magnitude of the support for our campaign, unfortunately this isn’t possible.
“Can’t name one without naming all but you all know who you are. I would also like to thank NHS Fife for their patience and understanding in this matter.”
