A row over a community leader’s racist remark is to be debated at a special meeting.
Inverkeithing Community Council chairman Chris Cunningham came under fire for using an offensive term to describe an Asian shopkeeper during a public meeting.
Fellow community councillors have called a meeting to discuss his misconduct later this month.
They will determine what remediation measures or redress should be taken.
Mr Cunningham was immediately challenged by appalled colleagues and a councillor when he used the derogatory term as community councillors met to discuss the town’s annual Hat and Ribbon Race.
The next day, he issued a “heartfelt apology” in writing to members of the body, whose role it is to represent and promote the general interests of the town.
Mr Cunningham, who admitted his remark was inappropriate and said he deeply regretted his actions, is a long-serving member of the community council.
The incident at the meeting on July 1 is not the first time his behaviour has been called into question.
Minutes of the council’s March meeting noted discussion of his “unacceptable conduct” at a previous meeting.
The meeting will be held in Inverkeithing Town House on Thursday July 25, starting at 7.30pm.
