A young man and woman were hurt in a serious accident on a busy motorway in Fife on Sunday.
The 20-year-old female was seriously injured when the white Fiat Punto they were in overturned on the M90 between Dunfermline and Kelty at around 5pm.
An air ambulance was drafted in but she was rushed by road instead to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The 21-year-old man, thought to have sustained less serious head injuries, was taken to Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.
Police said the car had rolled over on the southbound carriageway north of the Halbeath junction.
A spokesman said: “Police Scotland are keen to speak to anyone who saw the accident or the cars involved just before the accident.”Major delaysThe smash forced the closure of the motorway, stranding motorists and passengers, including families with small children and elderly people, for several hours.
A child and a pregnant woman were reported to have fallen unwell, but paramedics were stood down in both cases.
Both sides of the M90 were shut between junctions three and four as emergency services tended to the casualties.
The northbound carriageway reopened two hours later but the southbound lanes only reopened at 9.45pm.
