The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has been sentenced to 11 years in jail for killing her son.
Rosdeep Adekoya was sentenced on Monday at the High Court in Edinburgh.
She was charged with murder but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
The High Court previously heard how Adekoya, 34, repeatedly beat Mikaeel before stuffing his lifeless body into a suitcase.
She lost her temper and assaulted the toddler when he was repeatedly sick after a family day out at a restaurant on January 12.
After he died from his injuries at their city home two days later, she wrapped his body in a duvet cover, concealed it in the suitcase and drove 25 miles to Fife to hide it in Kirkcaldy woodland.
A major search was launched for the youngster after Adekoya phoned 999 and claimed her son was missing in an effort to conceal the crime.
She finally admitted to police: “It was an accident and I panicked.”
Adekoya has been a prisoner in Cornton Vale while awaiting sentence.
At the weekend Mikaeel’s grandfather made an impassioned plea for the boy’s killer mum to be released early from prison so she can look after her other children.
Ahmed Saeed, 63, said he did not support a current campaign calling for Rosdeep to face murder charges as he feels her conviction for culpable homicide is adequate.
More than 5,000 people have signed a ‘Justice for Mikaeel’ petition protesting at the failure of prosecutors to pursue a murder charge against her.
Ahmed, whose son Zahid was Mikaeel’s biological father, said: “She should not be sentenced for too long as she has other kids to look after.”
His stance is at direct odds with son Zahid who believes Adekoya should “stay in jail until she dies”.
Mikaeel was killed just five months after he was returned from foster care to his mother by social services.LIVE UPDATES FROM EDINBURGH:
