Man’s eye socket was fractured in St Andrews assault
ByThe Courier Reporter
A man returning from a St Andrews social club had his eye socket fractured following an assault.
Joshua Mitchell, 26, admitted assaulting Thomas McKee following an altercation on Pipeland Road on February 11 last year.
Cupar Sheriff Court heard Mitchell, of Stamford, Lincolnshire, had exchanged words with McKee, despite walking on opposite sides of the road.
The complainer’s partner is alleged to have then made a racist remark towards Mitchell, who is English, prompting the incident to escalate.
Describing the injuries suffered by the complainer, depute procurator fiscal Dev Kapadia said: “He suffered a fractured right eye socket and lacerations above the right eye that required stitching. He has been left with a 1-inch scar above his right eye.”
Sheriff Charles Macnair adjourned the case for criminal justice social work reports.
Mitchell will return for sentencing next month.
