Bomb scare near Balwearie High School in Kirkcaldy

A Kirkcaldy high school was caught up in a bomb scare when a local gardener dug up a suspicious object.
The lump of metal unearthed in a garden near Balwearie High School, which it was feared may be unexploded ordnance, turned out to be an empty container.
But before the scene in Balwearie Crescent was declared safe on Friday afternoon a ‘staged exit’ was performed to keep pupils away from one of the school’s main gates.
Some children were sitting an English exam as the drama unfolded at around 1.40pm.
Police alerted the school that adjacent Balwearie Crescent had been cordoned off.
Rector James More said: “I am pleased to report that there was no disruption to the English Intermediate exams taking place during the afternoon.”
The object was checked and cleared by ordnance experts from the Royal Logistic Corps Bomb Disposal. Police said there was no danger to the public.
