A care village and residential development could soon be built on the edge of St Andrews.
Consent is being sought to build a 60-bed home and 39 houses and flats, including five retirement homes, at Grange House.
If given the green light, it is estimated that around 40 jobs would be created.
C & L Properties (The Grange Ltd) has applied to Fife Council for planning permission for the project, which would see Grange House and its gatehouse converted and extended and the construction of the two-storey home and retirement properties.
It is claimed there is high demand for care home places in the St Andrews area and Balhousie Care Group has already expressed interest in developing the facility.
The company’s agent, James Paul Associates, told the council: “This demand is being suppressed by the unavailability of a suitable site in St Andrews and high land values in the St Andrews area.
“With the development restrictions present in St Andrews, the application site is seen as being ideal as it is within a short distance from the facilities of St Andrews, with direct footpath access.”
It stated the development would not adversely impact on the town’s landscape and would be screened by mature tree belts, adding: “It will supply a demanded community and employment benefit, creating employment for 40 full-time jobs, with the additional benefits to service providers.”
