A furry, four-legged pub regular from Aberdour is swapping his regular walkies for an 80-mile charity trek next month.
Three-year-old Scottish collie Dave will make doggy history when he becomes the first canine to complete the annual Dander for Mary walk along the Fife Coastal Path on June 27.
The popular pooch, owned by Jane and Niall Allen, who run The Cedar Inn, has already raised more than £200 for the Mary Leishman Foundation ahead of the event.
Jane said: “Dave is a wee character and everyone knows and loves him.
“One of our customers, Willie McKay, does the walk every year and asked to take him on his training walks and he loved it so much we decided to enter him, too, because he’s so excited every time he goes out with Willie.
“We’re even getting him a little T-shirt and bandana for the day.”
Willie, 67, from Aberdour, has walked with the foundation every year since the Dander began in 2008, raising more than £2,500 for the charity.
News of Dave’s forthcoming expedition quickly spread throughout Aberdour, leading Jane to set up his very own Facebook page.
Dave will join the other Dander walkers in St Andrews on the first day of the trek, after which he will walk around 20 miles a day until he reaches the finish line in North Queensferry.
The Mary Leishman Foundation was set up by Fife Provost Jim Leishman in memory of his wife, Mary, who lost her battle against cancer in 2009, aged just 53 and, poignantly, on their 30th wedding anniversary.
The foundation raises money and gives funds back throughout the country where they are needed most.
