Driver dies after crashing into lamppost in Kinghorn
ByJonathan Watson
Tragedy returned to Fife’s roads at the weekend when a pensioner died after his classic sports car collided with a lamppost.
The unnamed 68-year-old was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy following the crash in Kinghorn on Saturday afternoon, where he died of his injuries.
His wife, a passenger in the red MGB, escaped uninjured.
The crash occurred at the junction of the A921 Kirkcaldy Road and B923 at around 12.30pm.
Events leading up to the incident are unknown although traffic on the route was reported to have been heavy given the nice weather.
Police have confirmed that no other vehicle was involved.
Following the incident a major police operation was launched, which included the closure of the busy route the main link between Kirkcaldy and many coastal communities for six hours.
Westbound traffic was diverted at Seafield, while eastbound traffic was also diverted away from the scene.
Police Scotland have appealed for any witnesses to come forward and contact them on 101 or through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
