An 80-year-old woman was fined £335 at Cupar Sheriff Court for injuring a cyclist on a busy Fife road.
Muriel McLay, of Pitcairlie in Newburgh, admitted that on March 14, 2013, on the A912, she drove without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road and failed to keep a proper look out, causing her vehicle to collide with a man riding a bike and causing him to fall to the ground to his injury.
The court heard McLay had not seen the cyclist as she was looking at something on the road coming towards her.
Her defence solicitor said: “She has shown extreme remorse and she was very upset after it happened. The incident has caused a lot of stress.
“She is someone who has always had respect for cyclists and had been driving for 26 years without incident or any previous conviction.”
Sheriff Macnair said: “Drivers must keep a very good look out for cyclists. They are not invisible. They are vulnerable and have as much right to be on the road as anybody else.”
As well as the fine, Sheriff Macnair imposed six penalty points.
