A Fife couple whose wedding plans have been thrown up in the air after a social media spat hit the headlines say they have been “overwhelmed” by people’s support.
Henia Roy and her fianc Andy had been due to get married at Balgonie Castle this summer until a dispute over her wedding package with the venue escalated on Facebook with thousands of people sharing the incredible exchanges on the internet.
The furore has led to some brides-to-be calling for a boycott of the medieval castle after many branded the behaviour of Kelly Morris of Balgonie, a partner in the wedding business, “unprofessional” and “nasty”.
In the wake of what happened, thousands of people have wished Miss Roy and her partner well and the pair have received kind words from far and wide with some even offering to host her wedding for free.
However, Henia has stressed that the pair have no intention of profiting from the episode and will pay the going rate wherever they decide to have their special day.
“We are very grateful for all the messages of support and many offers of free or discounted rates,” she said on Facebook.
“We may investigate some of the alternate venue options but can assure you we shall be paying the going rate for the venue .
“We are not the kind of people who would feel comfortable profiting from this.
“We hope this doesn’t come across as ungrateful and we apologise to anyone who has messaged us and not received a reply.
“There have been too many to keep up with thank you all so very much for support.”
A crowdfunding page had been set up by supporters to help the couple, from Glenrothes, enjoy their dream wedding in light of what happened, while Elaine Kirby, from Harvieston Hall near Edinburgh, was one of the first to offer to hold the event for free.
However, Andy contacted The Courier to say a polite ‘thanks, but no thanks’.
“We’re overwhelmed and grateful for all the kind wishes and support,” he said.
“We’re sorry we can’t respond to each one individually yet.
“Many of the messages have offered free or discounted services, we appreciate these offers and hope we don’t come over as ungrateful, but we would feel uncomfortable profiting from the situation.
“We will pay the proper going rate for any service or venue we use.”
Andy added that his bride-to-be had gone through a whole range of emotions over the last day or so.
“She’s been upset, scared, cheered by the support and as you’d imagine many other emotions too,” he said.
“We’ve tried where possible to keep the whole thing as low key as but it’s not in our control.
“We also feel sorry for the old laird who we suspect is another victim of this.
“We met him briefly one day and he’s an absolute gent and very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to.”
