The teenager who died when her car plunged into a Highland river has been named by police as Fife student Amy Simpson.
Amy, from Cowdenbeath, was travelling with four other young women when her Peugeot left the minor road in Argyll.
The vehicle came to rest in the River Avich near Druimdarroch, around 25 miles south of Oban, on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old died of unspecified injuries following the accident on the C30 Dalavich road at around 6.45pm.
The four other women, two 18-year-olds, a girl of 17 and a 19-year-old, managed to escape from the car without serious injuries.
It has been reported that a local retired doctor came to the aid of the four women after they knocked on his door and asked for help following the accident.
One of the women was reported to have an injured hand, and another suffered a cut to the head.
The five women are understood to have been visiting a friend at a chalet in the holiday park at Dalavich.
Amy, thought to have been a student at Edinburgh University, was named on social media by her mother Angela yesterday.
She wrote on Facebook: “Amy was my world, my best friend, my daughter, my rock, my everything”.
Police later named the teenager and confirmed police enquiries are continuing into the incident.
