The widower of Susan Reid has died almost one year to the day after he laid his wife to rest.

The Newport woman went missing from her home in January last year and her body was later found in Tentsmuir Forest,

Keith Reid, former PE teacher at Monifieth High School, passed away peacefully with his son Jamie by his side on Monday at Riverview Lodge Care Home, Newport.

Mr Reid suffered from a progressive form of multiple sclerosis.

His remains will be bequeathed to medical research at his request A memorial service will be held next Wednesday for Mr Reid’s close family and friends.

A huge search was launched last January after 56-year-old Dundee University librarian Susan went missing from her home.

After weeks of no news, her body was finally found in Tentsmuir Forest by a dog walker on March 25.

She had been looking after her husband, whose condition had been deteriorating.

The final posting on her own Facebook site in December 2013 was of a sunset at Tentsmuir Forest where she often visited with her husband.

A private funeral service took place at Newport Church last April followed by a service at Dundee Crematorium.

The family said their aim was for that funeral to be a celebration of Susan’s life and her “profound Christian faith and hope”.

Her legacy lives on at Dundee University though the establishment of the Susan Reid Memorial Prize.

Social work students Diane Murray and Kari Gallacher were named as the first winners of the prize in February.

Mrs Reid’s family made a donation to the university to establish the memorial prize, which will mean awards are given to social work students for at least the next 10 years.

The recipient each year will be an undergraduate student who has achieved the highest overall grade in the third year of the BA social work programme.
