The newly refurbished Kirkcaldy Galleries have been a big hit with visitors since it reopened after an extensive facelift three months ago.
Several events and activities, including the People’s Pick art exhibition, Art Lab, summer reading challenge, visiting authors and new interactive heritage exhibition, have received appreciative comments and a warm welcome by residents and visitors.
Fife Cultural Trust’s libraries and museums service manager Dorothy Browse said she is delighted with the response.
“The building’s £2.5 million renovation has been very successful and it’s wonderful to hear positive comments about how the new layout connects the art gallery, museum and the library, now so bright and airy with the increased use of natural light.”
More than 7,500 people visited the town centre galleries in the first week alone. The VisitScotland information centre has also seen a welcome increase in footfall since moving from High Street to Kirkcaldy Galleries.
Research carried out during the first month of opening shows that 98% of visitors were very satisfied or satisfied with their experience and the galleries’ staff continue to receive positive feedback from customers.
Visitors strongly considered the refurbishment to be of a very high quality, in keeping with the historic character of the building and with a good layout.
Ms Browse said: “We’re delighted with all the favourable customer feedback and we’re taking on board specific suggestions for further improvements.
“For example, we’ve had requests for more information about the building itself, more local crafts for sale and a plea for the return of the Wemyss Bay Pig for donations.
“We’re sure that with all that’s on offer at Kirkcaldy Galleries, it will continue to be an excellent visitor attraction for the town and Fife.”
