A Dysart mother has been without hot water for a fortnight, after a Fife Council repair team returned a part required to fix her boiler.
Linsay Buller, 25, has been travelling to her sister’s home in East Wemyss in order to bathe properly, after a leak forced her to shut off the water heater this month.
Her Stewart Street council home has been without hot water since, despite numerous telephone calls to the local authority concerning the matter.
Although the council had hoped to repair Ms Buller’s boiler on Monday, she contacted The Courier to highlight her problem.
“I just wouldn’t want something like this happening to an elderly person,” she said. “Water was running out of the boiler and on to electrical cables below.
“I’ve been boiling water in kettles and on the electric cooker and taking my daughter on the bus to my sister’s in Wemyss to have a proper wash.”
Although a replacement part had been ordered by the council, Ms Buller had been out of the property when engineers had called to make the repair. Unable to call the council due to a lack of credit on her mobile phone, the part was eventually returned.
Brian Penman, Fife Council’s building services supervisor, said: “An engineer was sent out to the property, assessed the problem and ordered a part. When he went to fit the part the tenant was not at home and a postcard was put through the letterbox.
“This is our normal procedure and if we don’t receive a response within 10 days, the part is sent back. Unfortunately, in this case the tenant did not respond in time.
“She contacted us again on Monday September 16; we went out the same day and then ordered the required part.
“We then went to fit this on Thursday September 19; however, we discovered the supplier had sent us the wrong part so the repair couldn’t be made.”
