Large crowds lined the Tay on Saturday to watch Newburgh’s annual coble boat race.
The event, which sees pairs of rowers race in traditional rowing boats, is a highlight of the town’s social calendar.
The competition is usually held in conjunction with the town’s Highland games, but a decision to cancel the games was taken last month due to underfoot conditions at Robbie’s Park.
The first boat race is understood to have taken place in 1880 between youths and men who worked in the salmon fishing industry.
Despite the demise of net fishing in 1996, residents have continued to keep the annual race alive.Photo gallery: Newburgh coble boat race
