Tesco closure sees backward step for Kirkcaldy walkway renovation

Tesco’s planned closure of its Kirkcaldy store has halted renovation of one of the town’s busiest walkways.
Work to overhaul the Postings Steps at Bell Inn Wynd was scheduled to begin this month.
However, last week’s announcement by the supermarket giant has prompted a review of the £95,000 project, with most people understood to use the steps solely to get to the Tesco store.
It now appears highly unlikely the renovation work to the steps, which have been deteriorating for a number of years, will go ahead.
Councillor Neil Crooks, chairman of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said: “We are on the verge of spending £95,000 on the Postings Steps and that commitment remains as solid as ever.
“However, it makes sense and is prudent stewardship of our public funds to pause at this juncture.”
