Loaded weapon stores up trouble for police in Fife
ByStefan Morkis
A Taser was discharged at Glenrothes police station because officers had been storing the weapons fully loaded, a police watchdog has ruled.
The Taser was accidentally discharged in an armoury at Glenrothes on December 2.
Nobody was hurt in the incident and Fife Division has now changed the way it stores the weapons.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner has recommended that Police Scotland puts processes in place to ensure that all divisions comply with its protocols in relation to the storage of Tasers.
A Taser fires two electrodes which deliver an electric shock that causes loss of muscle control.
However, there has been controversy over their use because of safety concerns.
