Museums and art galleries across Scotland, including the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther, are to receive a share of more than £500,000 of funding for improvements.
The cash from the Scottish Government’s Capital Fund is being dished out among 24 centres by development body Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS).
Successful applicants include Glasgow Life, which will purchase suitable storage for the Burrell Collection’s Dutch and French pastel artworks, with its £28,000 share.
Glencoe and North Lorn Folk Museum is getting £20,000 to re-thatch its roof and to promote Highland crafts in an exhibition, while more than £19,000 will assist the Scottish Borders Council with plans to refurbish the Park Gallery and its surrounding areas.
Grampian Transport Museum in Aberdeen will have its roof re-covered with a £40,000 grant, IT equipment will be updated at Mull Museum with the £10,000 earmarked for it, and South Ayrshire Council plans to use its £40,000 of funding to develop Rozelle House near Alloway.
Educational visits to the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine, Ayrshire, will benefit from more than £7,000 and City of Edinburgh Council has been awarded more than £26,000.
Also, £120,000 has been awarded to Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, the Scottish Fisheries Museum Trust in Fife and Glasgow Women’s Library.
