A skin cancer survivor and her colleagues from the Aircraft Carrier Alliance are set to fly to the finish line for Cancer Research UK by taking part in the charity’s first 2013 Race for Life event.
The group of nine women based in Rosyth are in training to support 44-year-old Dawn Hunter, who is taking part in Race for Life to celebrate surviving cancer for five years.
Now the team are issuing the rallying cry “cancer, we’re coming to get you” as they urge women of all shapes, sizes and abilities to join them at the South Queensferry event on Sunday May 5.
Mother-of-two Dawn, from Dunfermline, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2008 after watching Street Doctors on TV, which made her realise she had an abnormal mole on her stomach.
After visiting her doctor, she endured two lengthy operations to remove the cancer. She has since had preventative surgery to remove eight more moles.
Dawn, a personal assistant at the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, said: “We have called our team the ACA Angels and we are united in our determination to raise money to help beat cancer.”
The South Queensferry Race for Life is the first event of this year’s season of 11 events across Scotland. To enter visit raceforlife.org or call 0845 600 6050.
