Group has big plans to revive Kirkcaldy town centre

Redeveloping the waterfront at Kirkcaldy is the ultimate goal of a thinktank created to regenerate the town.
Kirkcaldy’s Ambitions has stated that its long-term aims include the redevelopment of the Mercat Shopping Centre, the return of a single-carriageway road to the Esplanade, and the creation of leisure developments along the promenade.
The group, formed following a summit to revive the town centre last year, will also list a number of short-term goals that it believes will bring more people back to the heart of the town.
Its objectives will be listed at a meeting of Kirkcaldy area committee this week, when councillors will also be asked to endorse plans that include the desire to create a “cafe culture” on the High Street.
In a report to go before councillors, Paul Vaughan, a senior manager in area management with Fife Council, states: “Some projects will require support from council funding and other sources of funding will also be investigated.”
