Healthcare in Fife went mobile with the launch of a new service aimed at treating patients in their own homes.
NHS Fife rolled out its Hospital at Home service in Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth, the latest step in a bid to have more Fifers receive care in familiar surroundings.
Patients will initially be referred from hospital wards to the service, enabling suitable candidates to get back to their own routine and familiar surroundings, a factor which is said to aid recovery in some instances.
However, the health authority insists that standards of care will remain akin to that received by patients in hospital wards.
Dr Angela Wilkinson, consultant physician, said: “The service has been operating in Dunfermline and West Fife over the past year and we have had considerable and positive feedback from patients and their families and we are now delighted to be expanding this service into Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth.
“We are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and highly-skilled team, which includes nursing staff, clinical support workers, Allied Health Professionals, medical staff, pharmacy colleagues and an administration team.
“We look forward to this next stage in the development of Hospital at Home service across Fife.”
The latest development builds on the scheme that was piloted in Dunfermline last year, with NHS Fife eventually intending to roll the service out across the whole of Fife.
