Aerial Auld Alliance takes to the skies for Joint Warrior
ByThe Courier Reporter
The Auld Alliance has been alive in the skies over Scotland as part of the largest military exercise in Europe.
Typhoons from 6 Squadron at RAF Leuchars have joined up with their French counterparts for Exercise Joint Warrior, which has involved more than 5,000 UK military personnel.
Conducted every year to provide high-quality training for all three UK Armed Services, it sees UK forces working with those of nine other countries.
Playing its part, Leuchars has played host to a detachment from the French Navy Carrier Air Group, who have been flying their Rafale, Super Etendard and E2C Hawkeye aircraft alongside RAF Hawks from 100 Squadron from RAF Leeming and Typhoons from 6 Squadron.
Air Officer Scotland and RAF Leuchars Station Commander, Air Commodore Gerry Mayhew, said “It is the latest example of how the UK and France are working together to improve their combined operational capabilities.”
