Green light for Scotland’s biggest wind turbine at Methil

Scotland’s biggest wind turbine has been approved to be sited in Methil in Fife.
At 196 metres, the structure will be bigger than the Blackpool Tower, London Eye and the capital’s famous Gherkin building.
A jobs row immediately broke out after Samsung Heavy Industries’ development was given the green light by the Scottish Government’s Energy Minister Fergus Ewing.
When The Courier asked how many jobs would be brought to Fife as a result of the announcement, a Scottish Enterprise spokeswoman admitted the impact of the current proposal would be “very minimal”.
However, last year the South Korean giants chief executive officer, Insik Roh, said that if trials of the 7 MW offshore turbine are successful an economic prize of 500 jobs and up to £100 million investment in the area through a full-blown manufacturing facility would follow.
