The future of the erosion-threatened Wemyss Caves has been discussed at a meeting in the Scottish Parliament.
Mike McFarlane and Moira Cook, from the Save the Wemyss Ancient Caves Society, met mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Claire Baker to discuss the work being done to preserve them.
Mrs Baker has now called for a long-term management strategy to ensure the caves and Pictish drawings inside them are not lost to the sea.
The discussion followed a debate in parliament last month, prompted by Kirkcaldy MSP David Torrance, to highlight the society’s work in preserving and promoting the caves, which run from West to East Wemyss.
It aims to collect and record information on the caves and preserve them as a tourist attraction.
Mrs Baker said: “I was delighted to meet with Mike and Moira to discuss the valuable work that they are undertaking in campaigning for the caves preservation, particularly after speaking in the debate.
“The work that the society undertakes in not just preserving but promoting the caves should be congratulated as they draw attention to the rich heritage around the area.
“It is important that we consider all options regarding the futures of the caves. A long-term management strategy is key to ensuring that the significant challenges around coastal erosion are addressed.”
