A 16-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a major fire in Burntisland.
The blaze broke out at a storage building beside Rossend Castle on Sunday 28 April. Up to 35 firefighters were involved in the operation.
Numerous unique historical documents and artifacts perished in the fire.
The teenager has been charged in connection with the alleged incident and is expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Sergeant Stuart Davidson said: “This was an isolated, large-scale, fire that has caused substantial damage to the premises and resulted in a local business suffering both financially and operationally.
“Countless current and historical documents, along with other archived paperwork, have been entirely incinerated.
“The initial priority of the police and fire service at the time was to ensure public safety, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their co-operation and assistance during this enquiry.
“I want to further re-assure the public that these types of incidents are extremely rare, whether caused intentionally or accidentally, and will always be fully investigated by all agencies”.
