The bid to save Dunfermline Athletic Football Club has received celebrity backing.
Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has indicated his support for the struggling club, which is in administration, while MSP Willie Rennie has given his backing to the BuyThePars campaign by donating £500.
The campaign, which aims to raise enough money to take the club into fan and community ownership, has now reached almost £40,000 of donations from supporters in just three weeks since the launch on May 22.
Welsh, who now lives in Chicago, tweeted: “Used to live in Dunfermline and occasionally went to East End Park. Great club, want to see them get well again.”
Mr Rennie, of Kelty, said: “My family are Fifers through and through and are fully behind the Pars United attempt to take the club into fan and community ownership.
“Dunfermline Athletic is a fixture in the town and across the Kingdom and I’m happy to back the campaign fully.”
BuyThePars was launched by Pars United, assisted by the Pars Supporters’ Trust and Supporters Direct Scotland.
Pars Supporters’ Trust chairwoman Margaret Ross said: “The fans have already raised a really impressive amount in a short period of time but we need to keep this momentum going to help us reach the target from fans of £100K.
“Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of time to do it and in recent days the club’s administrator indicated the middle of next month will be the deadline for our efforts.
“Everyone involved in the BuyThePars campaign is really grateful for all donations to date but we need everyone in the community, be they individuals or businesses, to back the effort to ensure the future of the club for the whole community.”
Dunfermline were relegated from the First Division after being given a 15-point deduction then losing to Alloa Athletic in the play-off final.
