‘No reason to believe’ missing Fife man is dead

Sandy Clarke was last seen leaving the Victoria Hospital on June 4.

Police searching for a missing Kirkcaldy man believe he is still alive.

At a specially-arranged press conference, officers investigating the disappearance of 37-year-old Sandy Clarke said there is no reason to believe he is not alive and have once again urged the public to come forward with any information.

Despite having received dozens of calls in their quest to find Mr Clarke, his whereabouts remain unknown almost a month after he was last seen.

Asked if he believed Mr Clarke to be dead, PC David Snowdon said: “We have nothing to suggest that.

“At this time he is still classed as a missing person and will be until otherwise or there is information to the contrary. We are obviously looking for information from anyone who has seen him, whether it be in the last week or four weeks.

“No matter how trivial that may be we want to be able to find him.”

Officers have contacted his family, partner, friends and former work colleagues throughout Scotland as well as south of the border but, as yet, there have been no further sightings.

Mr Clarke was last seen early on Tuesday June 4 on Hayfield Road in Kirkcaldy.

He had just left Victoria Hospital having suffered a fall and was carrying two Sports Direct bags containing items of clothing.

With no trace of Mr Clarke since then, appeals have been made to the public to search outbuildings, while word of his disappearance has been shared with other British police forces.

A full-time police team is involved in attempting to trace Mr Clarke, working on information provided by the public.

“On a day-to-day basis we have an inquiry team which carries out checks with associates and administrative tasks, such as phoning and conducting background checks,” said PC Snowdon.

“Daily we have five officers dedicated to that but for search purposes we’ve had up to 20 officers. Searching is intelligence-led.

“If we believe intelligence is credible we will inform the search advisor, who will dedicate a search team to that area.”

Mr Clarke is described as being 5ft 10in, with slim or average build, short slightly receding brown hair, and brown/green eyes. He has tattoos on both arms and a tattoo on his neck of a girl’s name.

He was wearing a white top, black jacket, dark jeans and black Timberland boots when he was last seen.

Anybody with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
