The girlfriend of a missing Kirkcaldy man has come to the agonising conclusion her partner is dead.
Kaylie Caulfield told The Courier that she only hopes that the body of Sandy Clarke can be found as soon as possible so that she can have “closure”.
Mr Clarke, 37, was last seen in the early hours of June 4, walking east along Hayfield Road having just received treatment for head injuries at the Victoria Hospital.
He has not been seen since, despite numerous police appeals and searches, and more than seven weeks after she last laid eyes on him Kaylie says she has now accepted that Sandy will never return home.
“I know he is dead,” she said. “He’s not been on CCTV, he’s not been seen at any bus station, train station or airport.
“I just want to bring Sandy home. Whether he’s dead or alive I just want to bring him home so I can have some closure and lay him to rest.”
When last seen, Sandy was carrying two Sports Direct bag containing items of clothing.
Neither Sandy nor the bags have been located and there remains no potential clues as to his whereabouts.
Kaylie believes that in his confused state Sandy may have attempted to walk to Rosyth, where he had links, or to various parts of Kirkcaldy, a town he is said to know well.
She believes that there is also a possibility that he may have tried to find a place to sleep, with parks and public spaces the most likely spots.
“He could have walked for miles,” she continued. “I want to appeal to as many people as possible to look for Sandy.
“Even if they’re out just walking their dogs then please look around.”
Sandy had been admitted to hospital on the night he disappeared and was treated for minor head injuries after a fall.
Kaylie claimed that she received assurances that Sandy would be kept in the hospital overnight before she returned to her home in Dallas Drive.
It was the last time she saw him.
A dedicated team of police officers, based at Kirkcaldy, have been working on the disappearance with a search team ready to act on any credible intelligence they receive.
Mr Clarke is described as being 5ft 10in, of slim or average build, short and slightly receding brown hair and brown/green eyes.
He has tattoos on both arms and a tattoo on his neck of a girl’s name.
When last seen he was wearing a white top, black jacket, dark jeans and black Timberland boots.
Anybody with information as to Mr Clarke’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
