Two Fife towns have been left in shock after the deaths of a man and woman in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police continue to investigate the two deaths three miles apart in Rosyth and Dalgety Bay.
It is understood Scott Simpson (41) killed his former partner, mum-of-two Jennifer Rennie (26), in the flat she moved to after they split. He then drove to their former home in Dalgety Bay and committed suicide.
In a statement released through police on Tuesday afternoon, Jennifer’s family said: “Jenny was a loving mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend.
“She was a friend to everyone and will be sorely missed. We are all devastated by what has happened and would now ask to be allowed some privacy to grieve at this sad time.”
The incident is believed to have begun in the early hours of Monday morning when a disturbance was reported at Jennifer’s home in Findlay Street, Rosyth.
Her body was discovered in the property after police were called by concerned neighbours.
Police forensics teams swarmed over the area as they conducted their inquiries.
Then police made the grim discovery of a man’s body at a property in Letham Way, Dalgety Bay.
Fife Constabulary confirmed the deaths were related and appealed for anyone who heard a disturbance on Findlay Street or saw anyone leaving the area at around 1am to get in touch on the non-emergency number, 101.
Residents living near the scene in Rosyth described seeing police activity around the ground-floor property first thing in the morning.
A neighbour said: “I knew a lassie lived in there. I think she was in her twenties. She’d only been in there a couple of weeks.”
A father of young children who lives nearby said: “It’s an amazing street. It’s a great place to have kids grow up. But I don’t know anything. We keep ourselves to ourselves.”
Chief Inspector Chris Stones said: “Inquiries are ongoing and police wish to reassure residents there is no risk to public safety. Efforts are under way to contact next of kin.”
