A Glenrothes councillor fears a residential street has become a “rat run” for commuters.
Ross Vettraino has expressed his concern after witnessing the large number of vehicles travelling on Alburne Park in Woodside.
He fears many are using the road as a means of travelling to and from Markinch, despite it being located just yards away from the A92.
He said: “Alburne Park is being used by a number of drivers as a rat run.
“There is a problem in that the single road through what should be a quiet residential area is being turned into a distributor road by thoughtless drivers, who gain little, if any, benefit from doing so.
“Consequently, the environment of those who live in the area is being spoiled by needless through traffic. This problem will get worse and worse there are more cars using this road every week.”
Concerns have also been raised over parking on the route, an issue highlighted recently during a planning application by a local gym, which was granted permission to extend its premises last week.
Mr Vettraino added: “I don’t think that granting the extension will make a difference to the through traffic, but I feel that it might make a difference in terms of parking.
“As a local member, I do intend to keep a closer eye on the situation.”
