The 60mph speed limit on the B981 Inverkeithing to Crossgates road is under review, after residents raised safety concerns.
Jim Langan has seen out-of-control vehicles hit his garden wall three times in one month. Two of the accidents happened within the space of a week and caused significant damage.
“There are incidents all the time but most of them don’t get reported. You can see from the damage to the wall that cars are travelling too fast and cannot take the corner safely,” Mr Langan said.
There is already a 40mph limit along another stretch of the same road north of the Duloch junction but the speed limit for the stretch heading south to Inverkeithing, which has several bends, is 60mph.
Residents of Dales Farm Cottage and Dale Steadings want to see the limit south of the Duloch junction reduced to 40mph.
They told The Courier that the speed limit is causing serious concerns, not just for residents but also cyclists who are worried there could be a serious incident unless the limit is lowered.
Dales Steading resident Blair Young said: “The 60mph road speed is a real concern. The water run off from the fields has been particularly bad and, coupled with the volume of lorries from the (Muir Dean opencast) mine, it is unsafe to walk this road.
“Even when on the grass verge, you just don’t feel safe. Local cyclist groups have also raised concerns with me and are supportive of a reduction in the speed limit.”
Councillor Lesley Laird, who has been helping the residents with their campaign, told The Courier: “We have raised the matter with Fife Council but speed limits are set nationally and unless we can provide data to show the ongoing speeding dangers on this road then, at present, they cannot be changed.
“We have also raised our concerns to the police, who have been very supportive and are now reviewing this area as well as looking at historical data they have.
“If anyone has information about accidents or incidents on this road it would be very helpful if they could contact me with their information.”
