A Dunfermline athlete has his sights on Rio 2016.

Dunfermline Track and Field Club athlete Owen Miller narrowly missed out on selection for Great Britain for the Paralympic Games in London but is determined to be on the plane to Brazil.

Now, the 800m and 1,500m runner has been nominated by Disability Sport Fife for the UKSA team for the INAS world championships in the Czech Republic this year, as he prepares for the challenge of being picked for 2016.

Owen is a member of the GB athletics development squad and has been to Manchester three times over the last few months to train.

Under the guidance of Scottish 400m runner Gemma Nicol, Owen has improved considerably. He ran a series of personal best times indoors at the new Emirates Arena in Glasgow and, at the Highland games at Pitreavie, recorded a third-place finish in the 800m and a win in the 1,600m.

The young Disability Sport Fife member finished runner-up to Paralympian Craig Rodgie at the Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council awards and is determined that 2013 will be his best season to date.

Running in the T20 class, it was while he was a Woodmill High School pupil that he developed links with Disability Sport Fife.

Owen has paid tribute to his teachers for the encouragement and support they gave him as a pupil with additional support needs.

He excelled in cross-country on the track in the early years of his athletics career and has worked his way through to the highest levels in the disability sport movement thanks to support from his coaches, family, friends and support team.
