Fife school rector pours cold water on hat ban rumours

A Fife school has given a chilly reception to rumours they would ask pupils to discard their hats and hoodies while it is still cold.
Balwearie High School denied suggestions it had banned headwear for safety reasons as the big chill continues to grip Scotland.
Rector James More said the pupils would be asked to abandon their hats and hoodies in the summer, however.
“Of course during cold weather our pupils are allowed to wear hats in order to keep warm, but there is no need for this kind of headwear during the summer months,” he said.
The school has a uniform policy in place which all pupils were encouraged to follow as it was felt this upheld the ethos of respect, pride and good behaviour.
“For safety reasons it is important that our staff are able to easily identify pupils while they are within the school grounds, hats and hoods can obscure a pupils identity,” he said.
“We have simply put out a reminder to pupils of correct school uniform within the school grounds for once the warmer weather arrives.”
