Fife is to share in an 800 million euro cash windfall.
Fife Council has welcomed the news that Scotland is set to benefit from the vast amount of EU funding thanks to the lobbying efforts of the Industrial Communities Alliance.
And the kingdom will be in line for a slice of the cash as one of 17 Scottish members of the organisation.
Fife Councillor and vice-chairman of the Alliance in Scotland, Bob Young, is delighted that their lobbying efforts have paid off. He commented: “Fife is an area that relied heavily on traditional industries, including coal mining, and this funding will help regenerate those areas that need it most,” he said.
“We have worked hard at Scottish, national and European levels to secure this important EU funding for Scotland up until 2020.
“It will be put to positive use in many local communities.”
The alliance is an all-party association representing local authorities in the industrial areas of England, Scotland and Wales.
It was created in 2007 by the merger of two longer-established associations Coalfield Communities Campaign and Steel Action and includes authorities covering other traditional industrial areas.
