Safety Cameras are to monitor a notorious Fife road that has claimed two lives over the last few years.
The move comes as it has been revealed over two thirds of drivers are breaking the 30mph limit on Grange Road, a back road which heads south from Dunfermline to Rosyth.
From next week, Fife Safety Camera Partnership will deploy a mobile unit on the road which runs near Dunfermline High School in response to community concerns.
Locals have voiced their fears about speeding on the road, which has a fatal accident rate eight times higher than the national average.
Partnership manager Andy Jones said that a local Parent Council raised concerns about speeding.
Monitoring supported these concerns, showing that 67% of drivers are travelling above the 30mph restriction, he said.
”The road is used by school pupils and it is our intention to encourage drivers to slow down by deploying one of our highly-visible mobile units in the area.
”Local residents can rest assured that concerns raised about speeding on Fife’s roads are responded to and we will continue our deployment intention over the coming weeks.”
After a spate of accidents, local councillors debated whether to keep the road, which has long straights and several twisting bends, open to traffic or convert it to a cycle and pathway.
It was decided the road would remain open. However, the 30mph zone was extended further along the route.
The team will also be out on the following roads from Monday: A955 Methilhaven Road, Methil; A977 Feregait, Kincardine; Woodside Way, Glenrothes; on stretches of the A92 Glenrothes to Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes to New Inn, Crossgates to Cowdenbeath, Kirkcaldy to Dundee, New Inn to Glenrothes Dundee to Kirkcaldy and from Redhouse roundabout to Kirkcady West interchange; Cadham Road, Glenrothes; A823 Queensferry Road, Dunfermline; on the A91 in St Andrews Road, Guardbridge, Burnside Gateside’s Main Street and East Road, Cupar; A8914 South Road, Cupar;
