ATHLETE MORGAN Windram-Geddes dined with one of her heroes during a trip to Ethiopia to compete in a 10k race.
The 30-year-old won an all-expenses trip to Addis Ababa to take part in the Great Ethiopian Run as her prize for being the first woman over the finish line in the Balmoral Trail last summer.
The excitement of joining 35,000 runners cheered by hundreds of thousands of spectators in the Ethiopian capital was surpassed when she was invited to lunch with Haile Gebreselassie, who helped established the race 12 years ago.
The former marathon world record holder and double Olympic 10,000-metre champion welcomed Morgan and the male winner of the Balmoral Trail, Robbie Simpson, of Deeside Runners, to his home in the mountains.
Fife Athletic Club member Morgan, of Newport, said: “We had a wonderful lunch at Haile’s house.
“What an amazing, humble man he is, truly wonderful. He has a special smile that exudes happiness, strength and giving.”
