A FIFE woman has spoken of her devastation following the theft of a floral display from her mother’s graveside.
Dr Essie Tough, from Falkland, contacted The Courier after reading about the Anderson family from Angus, who were victims of a similar incident at a cemetery in Perth and Kinross.
Describing her own experience in a bid to highlight the issue of thefts from graves, Dr Tough (56) told how the display of roses was taken from the Halbeath Road cemetery in Dunfermline.
She said: “My mother, who lived in Milnathort, was buried on December 10. I found out the flowers had been stolen on Monday when I visited her grave.
“Needless to say I was devastated.”
The flowers had been displayed on top of Dr Tough’s mother’s coffin during her funeral.
Dr Tough said: “I was very emotional anyway, but I burst into tears at her graveside when I realised what had happened.
“Losing your mother is bad enough but having someone steal from her grave just adds to the grief.”
